Terms of Service

Last updated: February 12, 2025

Agreement

By accessing or using While ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Description of Service

While is an open-source application that provides bidirectional synchronization between Google Calendar and Notion databases. The Service is available as:

  • Self-hosted — You run While on your own infrastructure under the MIT License.
  • Hosted (SaaS) — We operate While on your behalf at while.so.

These terms apply primarily to the hosted service. Self-hosted usage is governed by the MIT License.

Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and connected services (Google, Notion). You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
  • Reverse engineer the hosted infrastructure (the source code itself is open source)
  • Use the Service to transmit malicious content
  • Exceed reasonable usage limits or abuse API resources

Intellectual Property

The While source code is released under the MIT License. The While name, logo, and branding are the property of the project maintainers. Your content (calendar events, Notion data) remains yours at all times.

Service Availability

We strive to keep the hosted service available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time with reasonable notice.

Data & Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we access, use, and protect your data.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, While and its maintainers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or data, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.

This includes, but is not limited to, damages resulting from missed or incorrect sync operations, data loss, or service interruptions. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time by disconnecting your accounts and deleting your data. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the hosted service for violation of these terms, with notice where practicable.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
